If you were a geek like me and loved English class, and all the classic poems you studied there, this a great collection to have because they are all there... the best-known poems by Keats, Whitman, Blake, and more... plus the editor provides a brief and often useful commentary on each poem.

This compilation felt more like something put together for the technical prowess of the poetry than the enjoyability. And yes, that is utterly subjective. I just didnt love the selection as a whole.

I'm not very experienced in poetry, but for me this anthology was a good start. There's a plethora of content to work with, a lot of prose and structure to comprehend, and going through the entire volume was generally a satisfying experience for an unaffiliated person such as myself. I love poetry and this is one of my go to books when I'm feeling in the mood to be moved. There are so many great works that I love to read over and over again. Reading the works of Byron, Keats, Frost, and many more are just very beautiful.

Decent collection. The thing with lists of "greatest" or "top" anything, is the subjectivity of the label. I enjoyed some poems, couldn't even get through others... But I figured, in a list of 500, it was BOUND to happen.
