Column About Books Death by Default

AN UP-AND-COMING AUTHOR TO WATCH OUT FOR!I love to read mystery books that are plausible but at the same time the author manages to weave lots of red-herrings throughout it, so that you are left guessing until almost the end of the book the villain's identity. I was thrilled to find Ms Reeb's, 'Death by Default' met all of my expectations and believe the book should rank with the work of all the fine writers out there.

This is the second book Ive read from this author and I wasnt disappointed. In Death by Default, Trish Reeb weaved another tantalising murder mystery which kept me entertained right up to the very satisfying end.Theres something about the characters she develops which makes them so real: theyre flawed and vulnerable and, sometimes, they make huge mistakes! Building the story around a chess competition was a great twist which just added to my enjoyment of the book.Well done, again, Trish Reeb!

My dad excels in chess. When I was a teenager, and even younger, I used to play with him. Sometimes more than I wanted. There were days when I really enjoyed the game, especially when we played on time control. Some days I was bored. Because the game was too slow and required too much thinking. Thinking is good, but when I play a game, I want to have fun. Not to test and challenge my gray brain cells. I am grateful to my dad for teaching me the game. I was never as good as he was but he put so

This is a pretty good murder mystery with a hint of clean romance. I feel a little bit bad only giving it two stars because I feel like I enjoyed the story more than that. The problem for me was that I figured out who the murderer was way too quickly. Had that been more difficult, this easily would have been a three-star book for me.With a better protagonist, maybe even four stars. I found his obsession with chess a little weird, and especially the fact that he's pretty terrible at it after
