This is the volume you've been waiting for The Invincible War, set in motion by Angstrom Levy The epic battle with Conquest The final build up to the Viltrumite War The Squid invasion of Earth It's all inside, and it's almost too much for one superhero to handle. Better and better and better. This is such a stunning book. Kirkman mostly plays it straight this time--no obvious jabs at other companies or characters, and minimal snarky meta-commentary on the superhero genre--but that's mostly because he keeps Mark super-occupied with the rise of the Sequids hiding out on earth, another Viltrumite visit, and the return of Angstom Levy. Kirkman does a wonderful job of handling the primary character issues of this volume--whether or not Mark is okay withThis title definitely does not shy away from the gore! One thing I'm consistently impressed by is that Invincible is such a vibrant looking comic. Where a lot of graphic novels tend to mute the colors for violent panels, this one does not. Everything, including the more bloody scenes, are played out in Technicolor.Gross...but awesome! This was (once again) a fantastic collection of issues. I'm constantly surprised at where the story goes, but at the same time, it feels like the direction is very
This is where the Invincible series becomes out of this world kick ass! 5 stars for the action / drama / high stakes. The lead story from issue #60 featured an invasion of over a dozen evil Invincible dopplegangers from alternate dimensions invading the Earth. Invincible alone cannot handle it - all the Image heroes must help! It has big stakes for Mark and other people that he works with, like Robot and Cecil. After that battle heavy issue comes a bigger and bloodier battle: the Conquest arc!

Can I just say that in regards to the story, Kirkman delivers as always but this collection belongs to Ryan Ottley's amazing art. The Conquest arc contained some of the best fight sequence/mass carnage art I've ever witnessed. Think I'm overstating? Check out this cover for issue #63: http://www.majorspoilers.com/wp-conte...Here's a couple more pieces from the battle:http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/...http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/...
It's been a while since I read the last volume, so I forgot how gory this comic is. The first few pages of this volume are so bloody, it is almost horror-movie gratuitous. I do like the direction the story is taking, and the art continues to be great. There was one part that was a lot of catch-up for people who forgot what happened/may not have read the previous issues. Other than that, this is a solid volume. The next one is in my bag, waiting for my long train ride home.
I continue to love most things about this book. But there are those things that are grating--Atom Eve deciding to make her breasts bigger when she, well, comes back from the dead, more or less...like, wouldn't that be a disadvantage to a superhero in most situations? I mean, if it makes her feel better about herself, then... Anyway, I liked the whole debate about killing villains versus putting them away to come back again, especially given the caliber of villains that exist here. Kirkman
