Representaion Concering Books The Third Circle (The Arcane Society #1.2)
Called “supremely addictive” by Booklist, the Arcane Society novels, written under both the Amanda Quick and Jayne Ann Krentz names, have pulled readers into a saga filled with steamy romance, drama, and dark intrigue. Her newest novel promises to mesmerize as well.Leona Hewitt, disguised in men's formal evening clothes, has secretly made her way into Lord Delbridge’s private museum to retrieve a relic stolen from her family years ago. But someone else is there in the dimly lit gallery, on the same errand: a tall, black-cloaked man whose very voice is enough to put her in a trance.
Thaddeus Ware, a mesmerist with psychic energy, is accustomed to fearful reactions from others—women, in particular. After all, a man who can control the minds and actions of others could rob a lady of her virtue—without her ever knowing! But Leona shows no trace of hysteria in his presence. A force to be reckoned with as both a gifted crystal worker and a woman, she exerts a rather hypnotic power over the hypnotist himself. And she is determined to keep the coveted crystal they recovered, by giving him the slip at a run-down London inn.
Thaddeus, on assignment for the Arcane Society, knows the menace Leona is courting by absconding with the crystal. It is a source of remarkable energy, and it holds the potential for great destruction. Lord Delbridge has already killed two men to acquire it, for it is his key to membership in the elite, shadowy group known as the Third Circle. And, with the help of a seductive hunter of preternatural skill—dubbed "The Midnight Monster" by the press—Delbridge intends to find her. With the stolen crystal in their possession, the danger is only beginning.

I think I prefer those set in modern times to the Victorian ones. Not because she gets anything wrong with the period, or anything. I think it's just that the society works better without the whole psychical trappings of the Victorians weighing it down (though arcanematch.com still makes me cringe a bit). And yeah, that's more a comment on the series than this individual book, but I do recommend reading them together rather than individually so by this point, you should know what you'reIn this Arcane Society book, Leona Hewitt and Thaddeus Ware meet in the mansion of an eccentric Arcane collector while trying to steal the same rare crystal. Hes a handsome, protective, and somewhat controlling man from the respectable Jones family.Leona has a shady background and has lost everyone shes cared for. Shes a stubborn woman but often gave in too quickly when problems arose.Their relationship bloomed fast (the book takes place in about a week), but the sexual tension felt believable.
Just check this one out fo the library and am really enjoying it. Amanda Quick is often reviewed as "same old same old" but her same old is still better than any one else writing historical romance!
Historical ParanormalHistorical ParanormalTHE THIRD CIRCLE is the fourth book in the Arcane Society series. It is the story of Thaddeus Ware, who is a hypnotic talent and Leona Hewitt, who is a crystal worker. Both of them end up being somewhat on the fringes because neither talent is well respected amongst the Arcane. The two end up working together to solve a serial killer mystery and also the story of the series of a cabal intending to enhance talents for criminal purposes continues to be a
I liked the characters, including Fog. The beginning and the end were good, but I thought the middle of the story dragged on (I kept looking to see how long I had to go on the audio.) Most of the books in this series have been 3 star reads for me- so I don't think I'll continue with this series.
A private investigator, hypnotist, member of Arcane Society and a crystal worker meet under strange circumstances. Over a womans dead body. Establishing that neither of them is the killer, they resume their plans, which turn out to be the same as well. They have to take possession of a certain crystal. He claims it belongs to the Arcane Society, she claims it belongs to her. And it is protected by a strange nightmare-inducing concoction that plunges him into the depths of hell. Aided by the
May 13, 2009: It is hard for me to be objective about Jayne Ann Krentz, so I generally give any book of hers five stars on a first reading, mainly because I'm so happy to be reading something new by her. I wasn't halfway through the book before I came to the realization that it was going to be too short. I know nothing about psychic phenomena and generally don't like it as part of the plot, so I don't know how much of this is pure fiction and how much is research. If I keep reading these Arcane
