Ilustration During Books Sostiene Pereira

Lisboa, 1938.

Write-Up Containing Books Sostiene Pereira

Tornato a casa, l'ho

Reasons of the HeartGiving unto Caesar is considered by most Christians to be a strict requirement of citizenship. From the payment of taxes to the offering of ones life in patriotic war, one is expected to conform as a Christian duty. Established government appears to be divinely sanctioned by the biblical command. After all, Christianity stands for orderliness in the universe. Social chaos is by definition evil. And isnt salvation a purely personal matter?Martin Luther, for example, divided

Lei sostiene, signor Pereira?

It was the end of this book that disappointed me. A little fast, obvious. Otherwise, the story of this "doctor" Pereira was interesting (he describes the rise of "fascist" ideas in Portugal in the thirties). The character was eminently sympathetic, a kind of false naïve. In short, I wish I could stay with this character longer, the end is rather abrupt. Another subject of discontent, the fact that there are many repetitive scenes in this book.
