Representaion Conducive To Books Never Die Alone
King David never let anything stand in his way, as he clawed his way out of the mean streets. If it took busting an old lady's head open with a Coke bottle for her last dollar, so be it. Mixing battery acid with cocaine to gain revenge was acceptable, too. Whatever it took. Then he made it big--only to find others had not forgotten, had no intention of forgiving. They came after him. He left behind a Cadillac and a diary, left it to a writer Donald Goines called "Paul Pawlowski." Like all Goines' novels, Never Die Alone is based on truth."He lived by the code of the streets and his books vividly recreated the street jungle and its predators." --New Jersey Voice

It's an enjoyable crime thriller. Worth picking up for a quick read. Full ReviewI am a big fan of Donald Goines' work. I purchased after seeing the movie and it did not disappoint. Interesting plot, vivid descriptions, and realistic dialogue. This is another of his books that did not disappoint. Way better than the movie
A shocking expose on the rise and fall of King DavidI told you'll that I was going to read it! I was pleased to see how close the book, and movie were to one another! With very minor differences. What's that saying? You live by the sword you die by the sword. OH YES! King David was a grimy dude insistent on doing whatever it took to get whatever he wanted and the cost didn't matter. Your last dollar, your dignity, your life he took and took until the tables flipped and his greed cost him dearly
The rise and fall of the Kind David... I love the ride Mr. Goines takes you while reading his books.
The French newspaper La Croix said of Donald Goines that he "...dives into the hellish world of the ghetto dear to Chester Himes, minus the humor." Unlike most of the paternalistic, misguided, and subtly racist "international raves" from French publications that are printed in every Holloway House edition of Goines's novels, this is actually a pretty good description of his writing, and gets to the heart of both what I like and don't like about his novels. Like Himes, Goines wrote rough-hewn,
Although I do count prison/street pulp to be it's own important category, nothing really new here. Almost seems like Goines might have been working on some larger work, or should have been. Not as hardcore as 'Dopefiend'. I'll check some more of his stuff down the line. I assume It'll fall somewhere halfway between this and Dopefiend.
Great book! I love Donald Goines. I want to compare the book to the movie and it was somewhat similar.
