Narration Toward Books Manga Studio with Mark Crilley: More People, Poses and Perspective (Mastering Manga #2)
Another brilliant book from Mark Crilley. I bought this at the same time that I bought the first one. There are enough new things in this book to make it worth buying. Like the last book, this one is also split into three large chapters:1. Heads and Faces:
Once again, Crilley shows you how to draw male and female faces from different views as well as showing you to draw eyes, ears, noses, mouths, hair and different expressions.
Differences with the first book:
Crilley’s tutorials show you how to draw more realistic characters. They look closer to real life but are still recognisably Manga. Also, Crilley compares real eyes, ears, noses and mouths with Manga variants, with some useful examples.
In this chapter, Crilley also shows you:
How to draw a face from the bird’s eye view
How to draw a face from the worm’s eye view
Glasses
Hats
2. Proportions and Poses:
Crilley shows you how to draw characters in proportion, from the front, from the side and from behind. He shows you more useful poses and includes tutorials of how to draw people sitting, kissing and fighting.
Differences with the first book:
Crilley shows you the differences between male and female arms and legs. He also shows you how to draw different styles of clothing, for example, goth, casual or Business wear.
In this chapter Crilley also shows you:
How to draw a body from the bird’s eye view
How to draw a body from the worm’s eye view
Foreshortening
How to turn a realistic character into a Chibi
3. Bringing it all Together:
Crilley shows you how to draw more organic backgrounds, such as those including grass, trees and rivers. He walks you through his process of creating a Manga sequence, from a rough sketch to inking in the finished drawing. He includes really interesting sections on point of view, light and shadow, composition of panels and creating depth in them as well as creating panel sequences.
This is book is probably for more advanced Manga artists. I would advise that you work through Crilley’s first Manga tutorial book before tackling this one, which is what I’m going to do.

This will bring my journaling skills where they need to be!
