Ilustration In Pursuance Of Books Para Kay B (o kung paano dinevastate ng pag-ibig ang 4 out of 5 sa atin)
I was rereading this book for the #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy and I think that reading it the second time made me love it even more. Back then it felt like one of those tragic love stories we all read but now it made me sympathize with the characters. Or it probably had to do with me experiencing heartbreak first. Ha! Truly experience is the best teacher, and with that I was able to be sentimental with the book.Me quota ang pag- ibig.
[Love has a quota. For every five person who loves, only one will be truly happy. The rest will love the person who don't love them, will love without learning, will love no one, or will never love at all.]
In this book we follow five stories, each of them portraying the many faces of love. That Love is not all happy endings, it can be stupid, greedy and cruel and it can also ruin a person and a family but what I admire about this book is each character's realization of love. Setting love aside, this book also deals with national issues like politics, poverty and double standards. Ricky Lee was able to touch these issues and use them in the background giving it more color, making it much deeper than just a love story. The characters are well developed in such little amount of pages and each story has a great arc intertwined to achieve a greater ending. It's like reading a book within a book and I love how reading it made me feel like watching a movie.
I would totally recommend this to every Filipino, this will give you all the feels.
I've included some of my Favorite quotes and tried my best translating them but somehow it doesn't convey the same emotion.[*sigh*] Or I'm just no good at all ... LOL^^ my bad!
[Her feelings can't be put to words because She realized that this is more real, and that he's more than real.]
[It's true what they say, that you won't end up with your great love instead it has to be the accepted kind of love (correct love)] ***I find this hard to translate*** huhuhu
[She liked to think that she had forgotten him along with her feelings but the heart is fiercer to remember than the mind.]
“Pantay-pantay ang ibinibigay na karapatan sa lahat ng tao upang lumigaya o masaktan o magpakagago pero kapag sumara na ang mga pinto, nawasak na ang mga puso at ang bilang ay umabot na sa zero, goodbye na.”
[Everyone is given their fair share of happiness, to be hurt and fuck up, but when the doors shut, hearts are shattered and the number reached zero then it's goodbye.]

It was just okay but considering who wrote it (and the big names who read this), it was pretty disappointing. It did not felt right. It felt like his writing style was an attempt to please the masses, like he was trying too hard to make it commercial instead of making it more art... This aint something that people will read after 30 years.I remember reading this book when I was in my freshmen days. So far this book have 5 of the most uncommon stories of all time. It's revealed in the last part that this is a frame story. I didn't get it at first 'cause I was really focusing my thoughts on the five stories, thinking which one will survive. It is revealed that one of the woman in the story is said to be real, and which the book is dedicated to.This book is a 'script' of a male character who happens to be in love to B.The stories

I love this book so much!!!!!!!!!! Must have read this thrice already. I love the whole concept and the postmodern style of it.. Truly a must-read for all lovers and all lovers of literature!
Ricky Lee's characters are haunting and I happily allow them to do so. A Rare read. Gripping and painfully real. Ricky Lee's a genius!
I used to read Ricky Lee's works when I was in college. I particularly loved Kabilang sa Nawawala(Desaparesidos) which I read in my literature class. When this book was released, I was really eager to buy it, especially after seeing a lot of good reviews from known people. I think this is Lee's first attempt to write a novel. However, this novel was a big disappointment. Reading Para Kay B is like reading your typical Pinoy love pocket books. Lacks depth, has the usual love story plot and has a
Ricky Lee's novel gave his readers the types of "pag-ibig" each of his characters experienced. Though this book may seem cynical, it somewhat portrays what REAL love is. It sometimes doesn't end happy and just like what the quota is-only one out of five will be successful when it comes to love, we just have to live with that.Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. Feeling what each character felt. Good Job!
